The Barrie Baycats have ended the Brantford Red Sox six year reign as IBL champions.

The pennant-winning Baycats won the seventh and final game of the semi-final series 5-3 last night at Schmidt and Shaw Stadium.

Jordan Castaldo got the Baycats on the board first with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

The Baycats offence struck again in the fourth inning with a home run by Kevin Atkinson. The solo shot was Atkinson third home run in the past two games.

Jeff Cowan and Jason Cocker also scored in the fourth inning to increase the Baycats lead by five runs.

Terrell Alliman put the Red Sox on the board with a single, scoring Jeff Hunt.  

Lefty Adam Rowe pitched seven innings for the Baycats, surrendering one run on seven hits and striking out six Red Sox batters.

The Baycats bullpen provided some relief in the eighth with Chris Nagorski striking out Terrell Alliman. Nagorski gave up one run off Lee Delfino single which scored Brandon Dailey from third.

With two outs in the eighth, Baycats manager Angus Roy called on the bullpen again. Adam Hawes took to the mound and struck out Wayne Formen to end the inning. Hawes would close the ninth with another strike out, leading the Baycats to the series win.

The Baycats will now take on the London Majors in the IBL Finals.
