You can expect a busier commute on Tuesday morning, especially with buses back on the road as the new school year begins. And police are reminding motorists to watch out for students.

Monday was the last game of hoops before school for Haden Lloyd and his friend.

“Summer flew by so fast like this month felt like a week and now I can’t believe school is just tomorrow.”

As of Tuesday morning, school zone warning lights will be flashing once again across the region, a sure sign school is back.

“Actually were just talking about that about how parents have to be really careful tomorrow because it's going be a lot of kids that are confused and going in different places,” says Jennifer Gauthier.

Drivers are being reminded to slow down and keep an eye out for excited young children headed back to class. Police say they will be back out focusing on school zones first thing in the morning, looking for people not following the rules.

“Even on the four-lane road like we have behind me here, the driver is responsible for stopping on either side of the road and that something drivers tend to forget after not seeing a school bus on the road for the past two months,” says South Simcoe Police Constable Dave Phillips.

More than 35,000 students are bused to school in Simcoe County and driver should prepare for buses on the roads, making frequent stops – including all railway crossings.

Police say they will have extra presence at school zones all week long.
