A man has been arrested after a wild pursuit  that turned into a chase on foot through forested areas, neighbourhoods and a school yard in Nottawa Wednesday.

Police say they attempted to pull over a vehicle clocked sppeding 100 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on County Road 91.

Police say the vehicle didn't pull over and continued to speed away on County Road 124. At one point, police say the driver threw what appeared to be a bag out of the vehicle.

The man fled, ran down a ravine into a forest outside of the village away from police.

Officers chased the man for over an hour and the Nottawa Elementary School had to be put into ‘hold and secure’ when he ran through school property.

The OPP’s Emergency Response Team and canine unit were involved in the search for the suspect.

Eventually the suspect was confronted by  a farmer for trespassing on his property near County Road 124.

The farmer said the suspect was exhausted and asked for a ride out of the forest. The farmer drove him out of the forest on a 4x4 to where police were waiting.

Police did retrieve the discarded bag and discovered it contained a quantity of Cannabis Marihuana.

A 27 year-old man from Feversham is now facing a long list of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police, operate motor vehicle while disqualified and possession schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana over 30gs

The man has also been charged with stunt driving.

He will appear in a Barrie courtroom Thursday to face the charges.
