The future of GO Train service along the Barrie line will be the focus of an announcement on Monday morning.

Ontario Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca and Bruce McCuaig, president and CEO of Metrolinx, will be in town for the announcement at the Barrie South GO Station.

In a news release issued Friday, the province states the announcement will be about “GO train service on the Barrie line.”

CTV News learned a few weeks ago that an announcement about increasing the number of trains on the line would be coming “very soon.”

CTV News was also told the increase would take effect sometime next year, and that the specifics would be made public by the provincial government.

If a service expansion is confirmed on Monday, it would be the first step in a bigger plan to eventually electrify the railroad and offer all-day service seven days a week.
