An Alliston business called the ‘Clothes Line’ is holding a coat drive for the 10th consecutive year to provide kids with winter gear that their family may not be able to afford.

Store manager Jackie Curd says donations are still needed for the drive.

“We are looking for any kind of outerwear for infants through to teenagers,” she says. “We get adults that need assistance too: coats, boots, hats, mitts, scarves … the whole variety.”

“It's great for somebody who can't afford things,” said shopper Krystal Szydlik. “To come in here and get something brand new that somebody else didn't want.”

Donated clothing should be clean and in a bag marked “coats for kids.”

Staff and students at the Learning Centres in Orillia are also holding a winter coat drive.

“Winter coats are what we are looking for and we give them out to people in need,” says Lloyd Springer from the Orillia campus of Learning Centres. “We start with our students: if they need a winter coat we will make sure they get one, and then we open it up to the community.”

The coats will be available to families at the ‘Clothes Line’ starting October 27th, and at the Learning Centres on December 1st.
