Dozens of charges were laid in a 24-hour commercial vehicle blitz earlier this month in the GTA.

According to statistics released by the OPP on Tuesday, 114 commercial vehicles were stopped during “Operation Corridor.”

A total of 80 offence notices were issued and 19 vehicles were ordered off the road because of “safety defects.” Some of the charges included speeding, following to close, distracted driving and unsafe lane changes.

“There are thousands of trucks on the roads at any given time and most of them are driven by safe and professional operators,” the OPP statement reads. “For the few that do not take their responsibility seriously, the OPP will continue to identify these drivers/vehicles and take them off the road.”

The June 16 blitz involved OPP officers and inspectors with Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.
