More money has been announced to build new affordable housing units in central Ontario.

Officials with the federal, provincial and municipal government were in Barrie on Tuesday to talk about $12.4 million. The money will be used to fund eight housing projects.

The units are being built in Penetanguishene, Orangeville, Shelburne, Orillia, Barrie, Gravenhurst and Huntsville.

The money comes from both the federal and provincial governments. The housing developments are expected to bring 123 additional units to the area.

The residences are designed specifically for the elderly, people with low income, and others with disabilities.
